Need lodging near downtown Tyler?
Downtown Tyler is a major business, financial and government center in East Texas.
The Smith County Courthouse and Federal Courthouse are located close to the downtown square. Several banks and financial institutions are also located in the area, along with other businesses and restaurants.
Tyler has no major hotels or motels in the downtown area, so consider booking one of the many fine hotel properties in the South Broadway Corridor, only about 5 miles south of downtown. However, a variety of boutique hotels and B&Bs are available downtown.
A new boutique hotel opened in 2022 in downtown Tyler near Liberty Hall at 109 East Erwin Street.

The Thomas is a place for Tylerites and travelers to gather, meet, play, rest, recharge and enjoy the beauty of this magical town together! It offers intimate accommodations, warm service, and a true Tyler experience.
Also located on the property is "The Judge," a boutique cocktail bar serving a curated selection of wines, beers, and cocktails.

Developers have transformed the old Greyhound Bus Station in Tyler into a boutique hotel. The structure dates to 1933, is built in the Art Deco architectural style, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located at the corner of West Locust Street and North Bois D'Arc Avenue, and is known as the Greyhound Inn.
The restored structure features nine guest rooms - five original upstairs apartments, two first floor units and two new rooms divide the building’s Art Moderne addition.
The upstairs rooms make use of apartments and rooms that are believed to have once housed bus drivers. The existing apartments include a living space, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.
The first floor will house retail services such as a lounge, bakery or restaurant. Guests can book and check-in using their smartphones.
The boutique hotel project is headed by Bergfeld Realty. Fitzpatrick Architects is involved with the design and historic preservation of the project, while Brownlow & Sons Garden Works is responsible for the design of outdoor dining spaces and landscaping. Maddox Construction is also on the team to provide restoration and construction services.

Liberty Theater, downtown Tyler
The Tyler City Council approved on August 27, 2025, an economic development agreement with Valencia Hotel Group to bring back the Blackstone Hotel.
The project honors a downtown legacy while fueling jobs, tourism, and growth for residents. It represents an investment of $47.7 million investment. The City’s incentives, capped at $12 million and funded only from revenues generated by the hotel, will be directly tied to economic activity created by the project. That includes hotel occupancy taxes, mixed beverage taxes, sales taxes and property taxes.
The full service hotel will feature 144 guest rooms, along with 5,700 sq. ft. meeting space. Hotel opening is projected by January 1, 2028.
The new hotel will rise near the site of the original Blackstone Hotel, which opened in 1922 and became one of downtown Tyler’s most iconic landmarks. Known as a hub for oil deals and a crown jewel for social events, the Blackstone was demolished in 1985. The new development will honor that legacy while bringing modern amenities and opportunities to Tyler residents and visitors.
In addition to hosting out-of-town guests, the hotel will serve as a venue for conferences, community events, weddings and celebrations, bringing new energy and activity to Downtown.
