Tyler, situated about half-way between Dallas and Shreveport, is the largest retail, medical, and business center in East Texas. The city features rolling hills, and has an elevation of about 544 feet.
Tyler is located in, and the county seat of, Smith County, Texas.
Tyler occupies an area of about 50 square miles, while Smith County covers about 949 square miles.
According to the Federal 2020 Census, the population of Tyler is 105,995, and the population of Smith County is 233,479.
Located around Tyler in Smith County, as well as in neighboring counties, are a number of small cities and communities. Many people that live in these outlying suburbs work, shop and conduct business in Tyler.
